Domino is a flat, thumb-sized, rectangular block used as a gaming object. Also known as bones, cards, men, or tiles, dominoes are normally twice as long as they are wide and feature a line down the middle to divide them visually into two squares bearing an arrangement of spots (called pips) or blanks. A set of dominoes may consist of 28 tiles or more, depending on the game.

A domino can be used to play a variety of games, most commonly blocking and scoring games. Blocking games require the players to place dominoes edge to edge against each other, with one domino in front of another, in a way that their ends match or form some specified total. This can be accomplished in a number of ways, including placing multiple adjacent pieces that sum to the same total, matching numbers in successive rows or columns, or forming lines and angular patterns. Scored games involve the placement of dominoes, with one domino triggering the fall of others on its side and possibly other dominoes on a nearby layout.

Traditionally, dominoes have been made of ivory, mother-of-pearl, or dark wood, such as ebony, with contrasting black or white inlaid pips. More recently, sets have been made from a variety of other natural materials, such as stone (e.g., marble, granite or soapstone); other types of wood (e.g., hickory or cedar); and metals (e.g., brass or pewter). Sets from these natural materials tend to have a heavier feel and look than those made of polymer materials, but are more expensive.
